10 Steps to Avoid Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Install a carbon monoxide alarm.

Make sure gas appliances are operating properly.

Never service gas appliances without proper knowledge, skill, or tools.

Never operate a gas generator in doors or any other gasoline power tools in doors.

Never use portable fuel-burning camping equipment in your home, garage, vehicle, or tent.

Never burn charcoal inside a home, garage, vehicle, or tent.

Never leave a car running in an attached garage, even with the garage door open.

Never use gas appliances such as gas ranges, ovens, or clothes dryers to heat your home.

Do not cover the bottom of gas or propane ovens with aluminum foil.

During home renovation ensure that appliance vents and chimneys are not blocked by tarps or debris.
